A Chinese company
is working on the production of lithium from the salt rock of the Andes
mountains. Lithium is also called white gold. Batteries are made from this
lithium. China is at the forefront of green economy. China has already started
mining these materials. Ten years ago, China bought some companies in
Argentina, Bolivia, the first mining for China in the lithium triangle. The
most lithium in the world is in Argentina, Bolivia. China controls 33 percent of the world's lithium production companies and
countries. However, as the Chinese companies' dealings expand, so do the
accusations against other international mining companies.
BBC Global China Unit has information about
sixty-two mining projects in the world. Chinese companies have stake in these
sixty-two mining projects. This project has been set up to produce lithium and
three materials for green economy cobalt, nickel and manganese. China has been
leading the way in refining lithium and cobalt for many years. According to US
Chatham House, in 2022 China's share in the annual
production of these minerals was 72 percent and 68 percent. China's ability to mine and refine these materials
has grown so much by 2023 that China has built the world's
largest electric vehicle fleet. China's role in this field is very high. He
reduced the prices of these products and also helped in reaching the people.
According to some countries, in order to achieve the goal of zero carbon
emission by 2050, the use of materials such as lithium
will have to increase 6 times by 2040.
In this field, the United States, the United Kingdom and
the European Union have already made their own strategies, through which they
can reduce their dependence on China. According to the government organization
The Business & Human Rights Research center, such problems are not relevant
for Chinese mining. Last year this organization published a report. There were
about one hundred and two charges against the Chinese company regarding the
mining. In these one hundred and two allegations, there are allegations of
oppression of local people's rights, air and environment pollution and unsafe
work.
These one hundred
and two charges lasted from 2021 to 2022. In
2023, the BBC reported that there would be another 40 charges. Which has been published by media reports and
government organizations. A Chinese company in Indonesia, Lygend Resources
& Technology, and Indonesia's largest mining company, have already taken
over most of the forests in the villages there. Locals monitoring the mining
say that the villagers are being forced to leave by the government. The
villagers have refused to leave their homes. Because the money he was getting
from the government was much less than the market rate. The villagers say that
the government is forcing us to move out of this place.
